"A" [44y] had her second over-40 baby in November 2004, both beautiful healthy girls. I'm sure she would have said if she did any fertility treatments, so I assume these were both natural pregnancies.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.

My mother was 40 and had been married for 20 years when she had her first baby, my brother. She had given up all hope that she would ever have children and back in the 1940's, 50's, and 60's there really was not any fertility treatments that could be offered. She was almost 45 when her second baby - that's me - was born. My husband and I celebrated her and my dad's 50th Anniversary at our wedding reception.
As a child of a mother who was in her 40's when I was born, I am both happy and sad to have had an older mother. She was a wonderful, sweet, selfless Mommy, but unfortunately she died of cancer at the age of 77, when I was 32. I cared for her almost 10 years during her battle with cancer - something most young women in their 20's and 30's do not ever have to think about. I am happy for the time I had with her, but she will not be here to see her granddaughter when she is born in June and that saddens me so much.
