A friend carried a baby to term at 47

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Thursday, June 28, 2007 | 0 comments

A friend of mine tried IVF [in vitro fertilization] quite a few times in her 40's and finally carried a baby to term at 47. This baby was with her own egg which is unusual at that age.

Her problem initially when she started TTC [trying to conceive] was blocked tubes. She'd had a son way back in her early 20's, but her tubes had become blocked following surgery at some stage.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
