I'm pregnant with my 2nd & I'll be 46

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Monday, June 11, 2007 | 2 comments

I got married late too -- at age 41. At age 42, I had a very prominent RE [reproductive endocrinologist] tell me that I would never have a baby due to age, high FSH, and low follicle count. I had my first one at 43, almost 44.

Now I'm newly pregnant with my second and I'll be 46 in a couple of weeks. You probably won't have as much energy for a new baby as you did when you had your first, but now you've got helpers. I'm doing just fine with my little guy, and he is quite an active 2 year old.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.

Can I ask how long you have been trying? I've spent the last year working with RE drs. with no success. My last attempt with IVF, my eggs didn't fertilize. I just turned 44. I had my first child at 40 (one month shy of my 41st birthday).

I'm looking for some hope that this will happen, but it is starting to look hopeless.

Was there anything you did differently?

  2. Sorry, I don't have any more info to share about this story.

I hope that you find success soon and have a precious baby in your arms.
