And I had a friend who told me his wife got pregnant at age 55, after she had spent years of going through hot flashes, bad moods, little and varying periods. You just never know....

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.

I posted eariler but couldn't get it to go through. Well yeah, I had pretty much given up on ever even thinking about a child. I have gone over a year sometimes with no monthlys but this past vacation brought one on (6 months ago). I guess the stress of getting through the airport and all. I wasn't even prepared. Then this past Sunday again. I always wanted to wait til the time was right which never happened. Now I'm ready, can afford a child, have good insurance, have a job with summers off and a month off at Christmas time, I'm with a wonderful man who proposed 3 weeks ago and wants more children...but I'm 48 and he's 55. He's been trying to get me pregnant ever since we met. We don't use anything cause we figure what's the use - I'm past me time anyhow... well maybe not after all. It's refreshing - for lack of a better term - to know maybe it's not too late. I recieved Supernatural Childbirth in the mail yesterday (ebay) and will start reading it this weekend. He's started reading it already. He also wants to adopt - are we nuts or what at our age?!? Well if it happens it happens. He made the comment yesterday "we need to start trying again". Ha, I'm ready. Peace.

  2. Nawlenz - Sorry you had trouble posting. I've heard good things about that book, "Supernatural Childbirth". I hope you will come back, and tell us what you think of it.

Adoption is a great option too. Do you think you would do local or overseas adoption?

Hi Catherine, so nice of you to drop me a line. Well I look at it like this, my body is doing really weird things these days so my gut says, "yeah, it could happen." And my fiance is so knowledgeable about women's bodies, (having 3 grown children and 5 grandchildren), it's scary. He tells me more about what's going on than I even know myself. I was always a tom-boy and could care less about these things. Now.. I have a habit of being kinda to the point and a little unsensored, so stop me if I cross the line. But..I just had my second period - in a row, (12 days later than the 28 day thing), but keep in mind - I go over a year most times. Hot flashes have stopped - the whole nine yards The second month we were together I had the thick saliva (while brushing my teeth -"ewww"), that has never happened before. I heard that that is a sign that the eggs are getting ready to "move out" and take position. We were "being happy together" every other day that month but nothing hit the target (even with me doing the dog-paddle, brest stroke, back stroke and cheering the little swimmers on, (I can be a little silly at times but man, do I enjoy life). Anyhow, for me to have two periods in a row, after going these past 6 years with 1-2 a year, something is going on. Or maybe I'm just a lot happier these days and my body is getting back to normal - I dunno. And... 9 years ago I had a specialist tell me, (after battling with my upward bound cervix), that my cervix is tilted up so far up toward my stomach that my chances of ever getting pregnant were very slim. I still used birth control though cause I was just getting my career off the ground (and... I was a wild and crazy gal). Last month while I was coaching the little swimmers, I noticed that my cervix was pointing straight down (where it's suppose to be) and waving at the swimmers - sort of like the working girls when the sailors come to shore. Anyhow, my hubby-to-be, (with his calm and oh-so-cool-manner) says, "your body is just getting ready for my kid". Awww, soo sweet. Anyhow, thanks again for contacting me personally and Happy New Year to you and yours. Peace.

  4. Yes, I believe that being happier, having lots of "happy together" times can sometimes balance your hormones and oops! there's a baby! Hope it works out for you!
