Yes, I am 51 years old... and pregnant!

To say it's a shock, is really a minor name for the way I'm feeling.

This is very much an unplanned pregnancy, we were not trying to get pregnant.

Not at all!

To be honest, I really thought my baby making days were behind me.

I did not think it was even possible to get pregnant at my age.

Neither did my doctor!

But then the ultrasound tech found a beautiful baby boy inside me!

TODAY'S BOOK SUGGESTION:

You Make Me Feel Like an Unnatural Woman: Diary of an Older Mother
by Judith Newman

-- Today the number of women having their first child over thirty-five has increased by a bazillion fold or some equally scary large number.

Newman is the first to write a book that tells what it's really like when a trip to the drugstore entails the purchase of both diaper cream and wrinkle cream; when "getting your shots means both immunization and Botox.

You Make Me Feel Like an Unnatural Woman is not only about having children later in life: it's about what happens to a marriage—and to the spirit when even the most sought-after baby comes.

Wry, warm, and brutally honest, this is the book for any woman — whatever her age — who has awakened at 3AM to the insistent shrieks of her darling and thought: Oh man, I'm too old for this.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.

Thank you for your blog. I am 50 and my husband is 39. We have our first child, a 19 month old that took us 8 years to conceive. We went through numerous medical treatments, a miscariage and a lot of money. We are normal working people who just desperately wanted to be parents. Now I get the dream come true to be a stay home mom and raise this beautiful gift that god has given us. I am finding it very difficult to meet other older moms to connect with in my area. I don't look my age or share it because it is a bit embarrising. My husband are now struggling with the decision on weather or not to try to give our daughter a sibling. We are very concerned on what another pregnancy could do to my health, since I need to be healthy and active to raise our daughter. I found your blog while researching the net for info about pregnancy and women in their 50's. Thank you so for taking the time to post this blog and provide it for women like me. I ordered the book hot flashes and warm bottles from the widget posted on your blog. I really appreciate having this site to view as a resource.

I got pregnant for the first time at age 45. Now, I'm 51 and our son is 5 years old. I have always been a late bloomer. My husband's 11 years my junior. Now, for the first time since I discovered I was pregnant, my cycle is late by 2 weeks. My sense of smell is acute, I'm fatigued and irritable...... wondering if it's simply change of life symptoms. If not...... holy crap!

I think that given the right foundation as a couple it would be a beautiful adventure. age is only a number. It truly depends upon how 1 takes care of herself. I'm 51 in great shape and health teach yoga eat healthy look 30. When I was 30 that was not the case at all. So don't worry about outside influences do what's right for you and your family.

I am 51 and my partner is 49. I have a 20 year old and I am 6 weeks pregnant. My first doctor appointment is July 14, 2014. My first pregnancy test was negative as it was too early, yet I had all the symptoms. I do not have periods and have not had a period for 18 years. So I knew I was pregnant as I was celibate 7 years and went by my dates of sex to calculate timing. I am going to take another test tomorrow and will post the results. I am sure I am pregnant number one my expanding tummy, bloat, gas, burps, breast pulling, tummy ligament pulls, and so on. I pray that this is a normal pregnancy with a healthy baby or babies. I am excited and this is truly a miracle in my "old age".

I am 51, separated from my long time husband for a little over 2 years, and pregnant with a 32 year old man's baby. He is a trainer where I board my horses. To keep some distance between my husband and I, I started spending all my time with my horse. Most nights it was just him and I and we got know know one another pretty good. He is easy to take too. Believe it or not, I'm the one that made the advancements towards him. It wasn't too long before he asked me to move in with him and he would help me finish my divorce. It was like being a kid again. After about a year he tells me he loves me and talks me into stoping my birth control. It took about a year but never the less, he knocked me up. I god honestly thought i would not get pregnant because of my age. Not true when you are having sex with a 32 year old guy 10 times a week. Now that I'm actually pregnant, I'm scared to death. I'm scared I'm going to be a single mother. That I'm going to have a 10 year old at 62 are just some of the things going through my mind.
