I gave birth to twins by IVF at 47

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Wednesday, January 07, 2009 | 5 comments

I gave birth to twins last year, using in vitro fertilisation, at the age of 47. The pregnancy went well, I had a natural birth, and I've survived and enjoyed the first year.

Being older, you've generally done what you want to do, and are more content. So age doesn't really matter - one can die young or old.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.

i'm 47 this month and left it too late as didnt meet mr right. decided to try as a single parent but my age combined with FSH fluctuating between 9 and 19 the last 6 months and AMH 0.07 makes it seem impossible. should i spend up to 5k in Cz which is an option with cystoplasmic egg transfer. i'm told the chances of me responding to stims is very very very low. should i give up the ghost?
