I don't believe our eggs are old

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Sunday, June 28, 2009 | 3 comments

I don't believe that our eggs are old. It just doesn't make logical sense. There was an article posted a while back about how every cell in our body is replaced every 7 years? Does it make sense that every other cell is replaced, except our eggs? That men's sperm cells are made daily, but our eggs are stagnant?

What I think they really mean is the basis for our eggs is there from the start, but they don't start to mature until 3 months before they are needed. So, in reality, they are only 3 months old.

What we need are healthy bodies, that haven't been exposed to a lot of chromosomal damage, and a good balance of hormones to support a pregnancy. Then I think that, as long as you are still cycling, still ovulating, and you have no other medical reasons to prevent a conception - you can get successfully pregnant - no matter how old you are.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.

Yes, I agree with you, and it is also extremely important to stay as drug-free as possible, including the prescriptions that seem to cause everything and something else for side-effects!
I praise the Lord for His goodness in reproduction rules to those who love Him.

I agree. I am so sick of hearing about "advanced maternal age" as 35 and older. Our grandmothers had children into their 40's without all the technology they have today and the kids were fine. It seems the more advance the technoligy gets the less the fertility specialists want to try with our own eggs. It is like they want the ego boost of totally "creating the embryo" in the lab. I agree, if sperm is viable the eggs must be as well. My FSH was 78 and the Dr. said I was in menopause and it was irrecvercible, I had energy work done (actually I am a massage therapist and ran it on myself) and I did it for a month and went back and insisted that they check my levels again and it was inexplicably a 7. Of course I never told them of the alternative treatment but I knew what did it. I got pregnant and miscarried within a month but I still saw that it could happen. That was 2 years ago and I am getting ready to try again next month.
