Mother had her last child at 47

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Wednesday, September 09, 2009 | 0 comments

I thought I'd post this here...I was talking to someone yesterday (I didn't even tell her I was trying to get pregnant), she told me her mother had her last child at the age of 47. She thought she was going through menopause but she was 4 months pregnant !!

No, she didn't use fertility drugs - this woman I was talking to was in her upper 40's and she was talking about how her mother had her last child at the age of 47, she thought she was going through menopause because she didn't get her period, but she was pregnant. I don't think fertility drugs were even invented back then.

It seems the more you talk with people about this, the more stories you hear.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
