45y, 46y, 47y - births with own eggs

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Sunday, October 18, 2009 | 2 comments

My RE [reproductive endocrinologist] is fantastic with age.

Before I had my retrieval on Monday, he told me that in his office, he has had one 45 year old (had twins), one 46 year old (single birth), and one 47 year old (single birth) - all with their own eggs, and he was very optimistic with me (my follicles were all 20, 24. 26 and he retrieved 6 eggs).

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
