I had five children... first child at 19 and last at 46.

My early family... I had lots of energy to play on the floor, baseball, hiking, etc., but no wisdom about how to be a parent rather than a friend. My late family... I had lots of wisdom and did a better job of parenting, but couldn't keep up as well with the physical stuff.

Age is not the issue. The issue is why do you want to have a child and are you prepared to give your all to parenting. There is great joy and great pain involved.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
