Pregnant with triplets at 49

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Saturday, December 18, 2010 | 0 comments

Working with a Tufts Health Plan nurse case manager, member Carol Penney has healthy triplets. Imagine being a mother of three young daughters, and learning that you are pregnant with triplets at the age of 49.

In her 35th week of pregnancy—on March 28, 2005—Carol gave birth to the triplets by cesarean section: girls Emily and Brooke, and a boy, Troy.

“I had three healthy, beautiful babies,” she says. “It’s a miracle, and I’m very grateful.”

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
