45 & 23w pregnant with my 7th child

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Wednesday, December 19, 2007 | 2 comments

I am blessed with 6 beautiful children from my first marriage. They range in age from 21-13 yrs. I am also a nurse and a midwife. I always refused the AFP [Alphafetoprotein] test offered during those pregnancies because of the very high rate of false positives.

I am now 45 and 23 weeks pregnant with my 7th child. My partner is 40 and this will be his first child. Again I refused the AFP and an amnio. I did have a level 2 ultrasound which found no markers to indicate Down's Syndrome. The baby is a boy and very active!

I know this child is a gift from God, and will be a huge blessing to all of us. Have I been treated differently because of my age? Yes. Many ultrasounds and tests for this and that possible complication but everything has come out fine.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.

I am 38 and trying to conceive my 7th child. Children are a gift from God. I also homeschool my children. I don't do the blood tests either. I will love any child God gives me. It is an honor that He trusts me with so many!

What a lovely comment, it brought tears to my eyes. I am 45 I have 6 children no 5 a beautiful boy has downs syndrome, he is loved and treated the same as the rest and is doing so well. I had 5 natural births and no 6 was an emergency cesarean no one is quite sure why. I said prob no more as suffered badly with varicous
veins, youngest or no 6 is two & half and I find myself wanting another.
I have been with my partner for 28 yrs, we love the children dearly and yes they are a gift from God and I thank him every day for such a precious gift and to be blessed with 6 children. And... yes I will go on to have another if it is the lords will.
