Found herself pregnant at 53

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Thursday, December 27, 2007 | 2 comments

This is how you can mess up, and find yourself pregnant at 50. That's EXACTLY what happened to the mother of a friend of mine many years ago.

She was having herself a casual little fling with a man she'd met in the Bahamas, thought that she was post-menopausal, done with birth control and wham! Found herself pregnant at 53!

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.

I am 53 now and I have four older children, ages 18, 13, 8 and 3, the last of which was born 6 months after my husband died. I found love again and got married and we wanted more kids because my oldest is gone so we got pregnant. naturally. I am expecting twins, a girl and a boy, in feb. 2008 and I am feeling great but I hope that I can handle two babies this late in my life!

How wonderful - congratulations! I hope you will come back after your babies are born and tell us how it went, and how you are managing twins.
