She had a surprise baby at 50

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Monday, January 07, 2008 | 0 comments

I am 44 and trying to get pregnant. Part of my protocol is getting a lymph massage once per month at the beginning of my cycle.

The lady who does it is a African-American lady who is 54 and has a surprise baby who is 4. So she was 50! She always says to me, "Your baby making days are not over till you're through menopause!"

She hadn't been trying, but is a super health nut (really clean organic diet, herbs, very spiritual and in tune with her body). I think I go there just to get inspiration from her (she is completely positive). And, by the way, her daughter is very healthy and bright.

I also have a cousin who had a surprise baby at 44, and my grandma had my dad at 43. They all had one thing in common, very clean lifestyle and optimistic. I think we can do it! Don't give up on yourself!

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
