Pregnant at 44

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Tuesday, July 21, 2009 | 2 comments

Pregnant at 44 - I am not due until mid June, and just found out that I was pregnant a few days ago.

I have a 2 year old daughter and remember feeling very much an anomaly when pregnant with her. I know that there are many other "midlife" mothers-to-be out there, and I would enjoy talking with any other moms that are in my position.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.

Hi Catherine, I cannot believe how similar our stories are. I am from Brisbane, Australia and at age 42 had a late life daughter, this week I discovered I am expecting again at age 44 with baby due somewhere around Mid April 2010! I have two adult children from my first marriage - I thought we have been so blessed with baby Danni and now we were blessed again having conceived both times naturally, immediately and on the same day (this child is due on Danni's birthday!) Catherine, another thing - I found out I was pregnant after asking my partner to go to the chemist to initially buy a menopause test as I felt that I was going through the change of life; I was experiencing some cramps and sore breasts thinking it was an impending period that never came to now learn it was early pregnancy signs, funny thing is my partner returned to the same chemist the next day to purchase Folate and Omega 3!s
