Amy was 48 years old when she became pregnant; her husband Tom was 45 years old.

They had been married for eight months.

They hadn’t counted on pregnancy, but they hadn't done anything to prevent it.

Getting pregnant would be a long shot, they figured.

Then, in the summer of 2005, Amy had an unusual menstrual cycle.

She went to see her doctor, who had told her a couple of years earlier she might be entering early menopause.

A few days after the appointment, the doctor called Amy at work and asked her if she could talk in privacy.

Then the doctor told her she was pregnant.

I said, 'Yeah, but are you sure?', Amy asked.

It felt like a miracle. How else could she explain it?

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
