At the age of 46, I had another child

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Friday, December 15, 2006 | 0 comments

Well, I was talking to one of the woman that I seen about 11 years ago and she mentioned something about her "three" kids. I said "wait a minute! The last time I seen you, you had one child and she was adopted. Did you adopt two more?"

She laughed and said, "No!! I have always been told that I could not get pregnant. That is why we adopted. When she was two years old I got pregnant on my own! The doctor's said it would never happen again. Three years ago, at the age of 46, I had another child."

I couldn't believe it because I remember the years of trying that she went through before finally adopting!!! She was laughing about it and some other women joined in with their own stories of "it would never happen, but it did" - either their own, or someone they knew!

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
