Very common in West Africa to bear children into their 40's & 50's!

Just a thought: I had a discussion with a West African friend of mine (university professor here in DC), & we discussed women’s fertility. (I am 43 ttc #1)

My friend said that it is very common for women in West Africa to bear children way into their forties and fifties! His own mother is an example; she had 13.

I asked him what did he attribute the increased fertility to? He said that, in his opinion, diet was KEY. In their country, people eat fresh fruits, vegetables, unprocessed/raw groundnuts (similar to our peanuts), fresh fish, unprocessed butter, & whole grains that are ground/pounded daily....even their meats are fresh: no steroids or chemicals pumped into them.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
