I know MANY women who are having children at 44, 45, 46

I live in a religious community where women do not use birth control except under very special circumstances. Women are expected to have as many children as they possibly can. That may sound horrible to our feminist ears, but, that is the life they have chosen.

As a result, I know MANY women who are having children at 44, 45, 46 and fewer, but still some, at 47 and 48. I have heard of women having babies after 48, but I don't know them personally.

My point is that in our community, a pregnancy in a woman age 44 to 46 doesn't even get mention because it is not considered out of the ordinary. After that age, okay, wow, then people might say that she is really "blessed." There are Down Syndrome kids in this population but surprisingly, it is not the huge number that you might expect. MOST of the babies are healthy and normal.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
