I'm now 48 years old, and just had a positive pregnancy test.

My husband and I are so excited about finally having a baby.

I am hoping I won't have a miscarriage.

It's a huge fear for me, I worry constantly about every little problem.

In the meantime, I'm bracing myself for comments, both from health care professionals *and* from our relatives.

I hope they will be accepting, but I am afraid I will receive negative comments about our ages, and possible health problems with our baby.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.

I think its important for ob/gyns to be supportive towards patients in their 40s who are pregnant, or desire to become pregnant. I am 41 and just found out I'm 8 weeks along. My ob/gyn disapproved, so I am looking for another doctor with a better attitude.

Congratulations! 41 is not too old at all! I had my daughter at 42 and it was the best pregnancy and she is healthy, beautiful and smart. I don't know why your doctor would disapprove. Did you know that the average age of a (last) baby for women (since they started keeping track in the 1800's) is 42?! And that's just an average. So enjoy. I hope everything goes well for you. Definitely change doctors.
PS: the mom's at my daughter's preschool are not much younger, and there are a few my age.

I am also 48 and had a positive pregnancy test today. I have a 24,20,16 and 11 year old. Plus three grandchildren. Twins born Sept. 22,. I am afraid to tell anybody. I am worried about my high risk of miscarriage because of my age. I am super excited! My fianc'e says " I do not want to get my hopes up". So I will call the Doctor who has 9 of his own and he is in his early fifties, his wife must be close to my age. CHEERS to you and good luck maybe we can keep tabs on each other, we may be good moral boosters for each other...

    hi jane

could you be candid and tell us if your pregnancy at 48 was unassisted or assisted by fertility specialists? hope your pregnancy is going well. wish i were you.

  6. Anonymous says:

Hi dreyfus. A second test came back negative. I am not pregnant. I wish I was though. I have not used anything to assist pregnancy and will not. If it happens... it will be ours naturally.

The condom broke, i'm 48. Didn't find out about plan b pill til too late and my doctor doesn't prescribe it but I've found I can get it over the counter by pharmacist if over 18. I just didn't have $40 that day.
Scared to death. Don't love the dad to marry, don't think I have the energy and resources to take care of a child but would consider adoption.
I promised myself i'd never have an abortion.

I had a baby at 45 and she is beautiful, healthy, super smart, wonderful little girl. I got pregnant naturally, I eat a very healthy diet (dr. Periconne pretty much, no alcohol, light sugar, lots of fish (wild salmon) and chicken. cravings for in -n-out burgers the whole time I was pregnant. I did end up having a c-section though. My cervix would NOT open, no matter what. Baby was 6lbs, 6oz, 19". My nail lady who is vietnamese said that ONLY in the US do we thing 40ish is too old to have a baby. She said "in my country, you still have period, you have baby, that why we have so many babies". My Sister in law said "Listen to your nail lady, Julie!" One thing I must add, I do Yoga regularly, and went to a Yoga Therapist who does something called "Sat Nam Rasayan." It's a very deep relaxation ritual. I think, I'm not sure, but I think reducing stress as much as possible helped me get pregnant, and keep the pregnancy to full term. The AFT test was torture, at 4 mos they came back with some weird results so had to wait 2 weeks for the amnio results, which came back fine. Also, had to go for a sonogram 3x a week in the last 4 mos.... but all good. More Mom's (and g'mas who think they'll never BE a G'ma!) need to know about this!!!

I am 48 --have 6 children--have had seven-one still born in 1988. Ages from 30-to-15 plus a 7 year old granddaughter. I also just had a positive blood pregnancy test. My tubes were tied in 1994. I thought my missed cycle was menopose-- but now I could be 2-3 months pregnant???!!! I am very afraid. I have just put four years into a new career and have 48 year old health issues. I would be 60 when my child is 12. I haven't told anyone but my husband -he's 42

I am 47 and will be 48 and my husband is 40 he does not have any children and would like to have one. I had 3 c-sections with my youngest daughter being 20 yrs old. I am very confused and not sure what to do..I would like to give him a baby but still afraid. I am healthy and workout about 6 days a week but that is now.. still afraid.

I am 48 years and we will be trying to get pregnant within the next couple of months. My husband had a vasectomy 11 years ago and a few years ago put himself on the list for a reversal, well they finally called him and it is happening next week. I believe it is all in God's hands and this is was he is wanting. I saw an OB/GYN today that I would tell every women to run from. I did not tell him that I would be trying to get pregnant because I all he talked about was my age and how I would have to have everything removed if I had any problems. I have had 6 pregnancies 4 live births and 2 miscarriages. Two were natural and two were c-sections. The man was scary and insane. I am happy to hear that their are others out there that are my age and are pregnant...
Just remember for those who are nervous or scared...God has given you a gift, a very special gift to love and care for don't let anyone tell you differently...

So encourgaging to read these stories. I took would like to try for a third baby. I had my first at age 39, and 41 - conceived naturally; delivered naturally. I am a very healthy 46 year old, do not smoke, drink, and I excercise.I love my children, and they give me the greatest joy. We had a vastecomy in 2006, without praying about it. For over 2 1/2 years, we have been talking about how it was a mistake, and getting it reversed. My husband is 47, and scared to death of doing that. I don't care about the costs. Just want to "undo" what we did, and leave it in God's hands. If he wants to bless us with another, that would be a wonderful gift. We both have great genetics, both my in-laws are alive - in early 80s, my grandparents lived to be in mid 80s;, and one grandmother is still alive at age 97! NO reason not to try. Only cons - no family around to support, but, we managed with our 2 daughters - now 5 and 7. I would like a little boy. I'm praying about it. Will be 47 in September. Hubby not on board yet. The surgery took away my "fantasy" of getting pregnant, changed my libido, and I feel old, watching these younger women conceive, and having the option to have more children. I feel like it was the wrong decision, and through me into a "post menopause" thinking even though I know I"m still young. Took the "REALAGE.COM" tests, and it came back that my real age is 34.1. Doctor says "at what age do you want to retire". IT's not about freedom, money, things, to me, about letting God control, and bless, and to see these souls some day in heaven - they are all that will be there!

I'm 49 and just found out i'm two months pregnant! I thought I was going through menopause so I didn't even bother to take a pregnancy test when I missed my first period. When I started to get nauseous at night, I finally went to the doctor for a blood test. I'm not married and have no idea how to tell my on again off again boyfriend. Any suggestions would be helpful. He has three kids and does not want any more....

I'm 46 having two healthy kids of 8 and 6 by natural birth. My partner is 42 and does not have any children. He used to plan an adoption in his previous marriage but he ended up divorced. He did not care much about having his own children and happy to love mine ones. But I am very keen for him to have at least one child of his own. We are committed to some travel plans this year, but we will seriously try for a baby next year. Its very encouraging to read all the posts here. I am healthy and believe that I can handle another birth. Only we need God to be on our side for my partner to experience the fatherhood for his own child. I am a bit nervous as this is the whole my idea and it finally made my partner somewhat excited about having a baby. But I will leave it to God to decide what it be. I still can see my period regularly although the cycle seems shorter and shorter during the last several months. Can anyone advise what I have to do next to affirm about the possibility of me getting pregnant?

Wow. I'm here shocked and amazed at some of your stories. I'm 48, my tubes tied 14 years ago. Missed my period 2 months now after always having a normal menstral cycle. I'm wondering, is it menopause? Or am I pregnant. My breast or sore and tender. I go to my Gyn today. I hope it's menopause. To be finished with my periods would be a blessing! On the other hand, my hubby hopes for a pregnancy. I have had 2 kids that are now 23 and 14, a grandchild on the way. I've adopted 5 kids from fostering. I'm pooped and I feel to old for this to turn out to be a pregnancy. Well, we'll see...

After marrying at 43, my husband and I began fertility treatments with no success. After 4 years and several thousand dollars spent out-of-pocket, we gave up. A year later I became naturally pregnant. Unfortunately, I miscarried at 8 weeks. Today, at 48 and 3/4, I find myself with 2 positive home pg tests. I'm awaiting blood test results. We are thrilled behind belief, but afraid to get too excited, given my earlier miscarriage. Please pray for us!!

I am 48 years old and thought I was in menopause, but found out two weeks ago I am expecting my seventh child. I am 17 weeks along and just had my first ultrasound, the baby appears to be a healthy boy. I am still in shock as I was going through perimenopause at the time with hot flashes and irregular periods. My health insurance is the high deductible plan so our uncovered expenses can be as high as $10,000, which will be rough for my husband and I. We are having a trisomy 21 blood test for Downs Syndrome Screening and an ultrasound level 2 to screen for trisomy 18 & 13.

    Hi;

I'm 48 and have always had regular periods, every 28 days faithfully. My last one was December 9th and I was supposed to get it on January 6th. My boyfriend and I don't use anything, we have been together for 6 years. I would be very happy to have another child. I took a couple of pregnancy tests and got faint positives. I called my ob/gyn office today and spoke to the nurse, she told me to wait a couple of more weeks that it's probably menopause. She said that she "highly doubts" that I am pregnant and it would be a miracle for someone "my age" to get pregnant! I am so upset right now, I know my body. I have been going to the same ob/gyn since before my son, who is 9, was born. I didn't get a positive test with him until I was almost 4 months along. What do you all think, am I crazy?

    Thanks for listening!
    Jane

I am 33 1/2 weeks pregnant now with my seven child a little boy. He is due April 2nd. My oldest son and his girlfriend are expecting a little boy due March 20th, my first grandchild. I will be 49 in May. My pregnancy has went well so far. I am very tired at times though and don't like all the extra non stress tests weekly and prenatal appointments I have to go to due to my age.

I am 48yrs old and found out I am now 7 weeks pregnant I was excited because of my age, but from reading post here I am so scared for the health of my baby I have only read one positive post here for woman in there 40's getting pregnant. I don't believe in abortions, so how ever the lord see fit to bless me with a child at my age then I will be truly thankful.
