Pregnancy is still possible regardless of age

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Friday, January 12, 2007 | 0 comments

Age and Pregnancy: Many women who want to become pregnant again after a tubal ligation are over 35 years of age and want to know what their chances are of having another baby. Although doctors often give pessimistic opinions about this, the Tubal Reversal Study at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Centre gives encouraging news for these women.

Among women age 35-39, the pregnancy rate was 58% and for women 40 and older the pregnancy rate was 40%. Although these rates are lower than for younger women, they show that as long as a woman is still ovulating, pregnancy is still possible regardless of age.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
