I too am 46 and expecting. Like you I was shocked at first, I thought I was starting menopause!! Had stopped paying attention to when my periods came, so wasn't sure of when the little one would arrive. - Jan, #9 due in June

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.

Dear Jan,
I am so glad to read about your pregnancy. I am 45 plus and had a positive pregnancy test two weeks ago. This is my 13th pregnancy, 10 living children. Two years ago, I delivered a baby girl at 19 weeks. She had genetic abnormalities (Downs Syndrome plus fatal abnormalities). I feel at peace right now, but have no one outside of my husband with which to share the great news. This was a true surprise, but definitely welcome even if it may be short lived. It's still a wonderful miracle. I'm holding off to tell my children until the second trimester. It's not them I really worry about truthfully; it's those that will be so negative after the kids spread the word. Did you tell your children right away?
