When I was 44 1/2 years old I went to see an RE [reproductive endocrynologist] with my husband. He told us that he couldn't do anything for us except with donor eggs, and that our chances of conceiving were less than 3%. We were stunned.
I walked back into his office one month later for a blood test that confirmed that I was indeed pregnant the old fashioned way. I gave birth to my first child, a healthy girl, nine months later at the ripe old age of 45.
I will never forget the look on that doc's face as I left his office that day. He looked up at me through the glass and shook his head in astonishment.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
