I am 48 & have a 2y old

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Friday, December 07, 2007 | 0 comments

Listen to me. I am 48 years old. I have one child who is two, and my husband is 49. We live in a very rural place and we were, by far, the interesting topic of many dinner tables around here, believe me.

Now that all has been in the past we are just part of the landscape, and we couldn't be happier. Your life is just that. Yours. You are obligated to take good care of the body you have been given, and to keep your mind active and seek happiness.

If you are the kind of person for whom a child, or children, will help you find those goals, then I say Good Luck and Go Forth. Spending time with people who feel they have a right to dictate your life (your young life, from my perspective) is so not worth your time and energy.

Surround yourself with love, even if it's only a few people. It will all work out in the end. Believe me. I have never participated in discussion of any kind ever before, but I had to write.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
