So happy to be having this 5th child at 44

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Thursday, December 06, 2007 | 0 comments

I find myself worrying what people say, but try to focus on what I want in my life. I have 4 children, 20, 18, 15 & 2 years old, and now I am 27 weeks pregnant with my 5th.

After my last baby, people would say things like, you're a baby maker, now we know how babies are made, oh you're starting over?, etc. I feel like it is a gift from God to have these precious ones. I didn't plan the 4th, but was pleasantly surprised and filled with constant joy ever since the day that my son was born. After his birth I had the burning desire to have one more. I prayed for one more.

I'm so happy to be having this 5th child at age 44. I had my first at age 24. I can say from my personal experience it seems to me that as an older mom this time, I feel like I appreciate this precious life so much and am more in tune with the awe of the miracle of a baby and am so involved, amazed and focused on every milestone of baby.

I think when you are young we are happy go lucky, take things for granted and sometimes don't realize the fullness of the experience of motherhood.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
