33% over 40 can get pregnant naturally
I think that's amazing that 1/3 of women over 40 can get pregnant naturally. That is pretty interesting, because articles on fertility these past few years have been scaring younger women into thinking they've got to have kids in their 20's (and this includes NYTimes articles!).
They talk about steep declines in fertility, etc., without mentioning there's still a 33% chance of getting pregnant in your 40's! This may explain why one of the top groups of Americans to get abortions are women over 40 --- whoops! can't cope with that surprise! (the other top group is teenagers) (This is according to a friend's ob/gyn; I have not read articles on it).
If more people knew that 33% of women over 40 can get pregnant naturally, perhaps they'd be more careful!
