His grandmother had his father at 48

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Tuesday, February 26, 2008 | 0 comments

I just wanted to drop in with some news I found interesting. I saw my OB [obstetrician] yesterday, for my 6 week check up. He wanted to discuss birth control!!! What a joke! I told him after several IVF's [in vitro fertilization], etc, I didn't think I needed birth control.

He then told me about his grandmother, who had his father at age 48. He then went on to tell me about two patients who are 45, and pregnant by accident. I then met a lady while visiting my daughter at NICU [Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit], who was 42 and pregnant by accident after 6 years of trying and finally giving up.

I found it inspirational, and was wishing I had heard all these stories when I was trying to conceive - so wanted to share.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
