Another mom I cared for, who is a friend of mine, was 45 when she gave birth to number six also. She had a number of miscarriages prior to her last pregnancy, with no history of earlier miscarriages.
Her husband had had a vasectomy which had been reversed as they decided they wanted one more baby! The miscarriages began occurring after the reversal, and it took about 3 years before she was able to conceive and carry to term.
She felt pretty tired and run down in the last pregnancy, and mostly scared of losing the baby, but the birth and postpartum was uncomplicated.

I assisted a woman this summer that was 45 years old, g6p4 ages 24, 13, 9, 6 years old. 1st forceps breech, 2nd Cesarean for active HSV, 3rd induced Vbac, 4-miscarriage, 5-Vbac at home (got tired of docs and hospitals looking for problems) 6-miscarriage, 7- conceived 6 month after miscarriage. Very supportive, and same husband with last 3 children . Excellent diet. Living 40 miles from the closest hospital.
She had her 1st two visits at the local clinic with Family Practice doctors, who strongly recommended hospital birth due to age and distance to hospital and refused referral for home birth. She and her family were well aware of her risk factors, they also were aware of the risks of going to the hospital for routine birth with her "risk" factors.
She used a lot of herbs throughout, chiro care for her back, she was in a lot a back pain at the end. She was totally receptive to transferring to hospital/docs at the earliest signs of problems.
She gained the most she had of all pregnancies, and felt her years at the end of pregnancy. 9 hours latent, 4 hours active, 20 minutes pushing. 17min3rd followed by 450-500cc bleeding. (I saw my partner inadvertently put a lot of tension on the cord right after birth which probably may have contributed.)

I am a graduate of this board too - October 4th, with my 3rd son. We got quite a shock when I came up preggers Saturday, we sure weren't expecting that! I am cautiously optimistic, but the truth is your rate of miscarriage is just higher as you age.

I will be 46 in October, and as of today am officially pregnant with my first baby!!
I tried off and on with lots of travel to get to my donor to get pregnant with my best friend (using at home insemination technique). I was 43, but turned 44 by our third try. Then, he bailed on me... long story.
So, after dealing with the disappointment of that I went to my Gyno and asked for a good fertility specialist (and apparently ended up with THE best one in Canada, I have since discovered.)
Everything with me was fine - I ovulated, I had fairly low FSH for my age (8), tubes were open etc, but the IUI's I had in January and February didn't take. I was told it would be a miracle b/c of "older eggs" - they call me an "elderly" patient!!
This was devastating - all I kept thinking was why can cats, dogs, squirrels etc. have young, I want to be blessed too. I was on Clomid (100mg) but only had one follicle in January and February.
Then in March after MommaKath's No. 2 Herbs for Clomid users, and the clomid, I had FOUR follicles ranging between 10 and 18 mm. I had an IUI March 13, and felt myself ovulating all along the 2 hour drive to get to the clinic.
