I am 44, expecting my 1st baby

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Thursday, February 19, 2009 | 0 comments

I am 44 and expect my first baby (a girl) in mid September. This was a complete surprise. I had years ago written off any chance of motherhood. We weren't trying too hard to avoid pregnancy, but we sure weren't trying for it.

The pregnancy has been medically uneventful. I've had other (non-baby related) medical problems and was hospitalized for a couple of nights last month. I've enjoyed much of the experience so far, but have certainly done my share of whining. After my health problems last month, I am happy to be "just pregnant" in August.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
