My midwife delivered a 48y old

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Monday, June 15, 2009 | 1 comments

I know personally one mother who gave birth at 46. Another good friend of mine gave birth at 45 (nearing 46).

I had babies at 40 and 43. My midwife told me she delivered a 48 year old and my OB [Obstetrician] said she delivered a 47 year old. (Those don't really count as knowing personally, though.)

Oh, also my mom had her youngest at 41.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.

wow, got through pregnancy at the age of 48! this should serve as an inspiration to healthy younger women who are ready to build their own family yet find it hard to get pregnant.
