Having children over 40 is not a modern thing

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Sunday, October 23, 2011 | 1 comments

I'm new to this site but just wanted to say I am 43 and got pregnant with my own eggs at 42.5.

Although we all know its more difficult as you get older I get really pissed off with the suggestion that having children over 40 is a modern thing when my gran did it in 1922 and 24 at 41 and 44 and my mum in the 60's with me at 41.

Because of the family history I assumed it would be easy - ha ha ha - it wasn't but I got there.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.

My grandma also had my uncle at 45. She wasnt to keen on having another baby, but grandpa was so thrilled, he promised to look after him. And he did, they went everywhere together.

Don't just sit there, reading this story or article - say something! Do you believe it? Do you think it is impossible? Do you wish it was you? Do you have a story to share (it might get published!)
