I will be 46 in June, & just got a BFP

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Tuesday, November 21, 2006 | 0 comments

I am a frequent lurker, will be 46 in June, and just got a BFP [big fat positive - pregnancy test] yesterday! I am in complete shock.

Here's my saga... Son #1 born in 1981, son #2 born in 1984. My husband was 40, and insisted he was too old to have any more children, so he got a vasectomy. By 1993, I had convinced him to have it reversed, but we did not get pregnant.

Gave up, 4 years later, surprise! Son #3 born in 1998 (my husband was 53, certainly not too old LOL). Tried and tried since September 1999 to get pregnant again, Clomid, ICI [Intra-cervical insemination], herbs, monitor, etc. Gave up again.

Was late and crampy yesterday with no usual pre AF [Aunt Flo - period] CM [cervical mucus], so tested and it was positive! My husband will be almost 60 when this one is (prayerfully) born.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
