Baby Shock for Mother, 46

Finding out you’re pregnant can often come as a surprise, but it can be downright shocking when you think you’ve entered menopause. That was the case for Deryn Minn, of Welshpool, Wales, who had been informed by her GP [general practioner - doctor] that she didn’t need to use to birth control anymore as she was menopausal and therefore unable to get pregnant.

Yet, just eight months later, Minn, 46, learned that she was in fact pregnant with her third child. Speaking about her surprising news, Minn said: “The GP said I wasn’t likely to get pregnant at my age so I was really shocked and then angry when I found out I was pregnant eight months later.”

However, those negative feelings quickly disappeared: “I’m now really grateful to the doctor, because without him I wouldn’t have Harry and he’s absolutely gorgeous.” Harry is Minn’s third child and her partner, Dave Jones, first. Minn has two teenage daughters from a previous relationship.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
