I am 24 weeks pregnant at 45

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Monday, June 18, 2007 | 0 comments

I am 24 weeks pregnant at age 45 with children ages 19 (away at college), 14, and 9. I was trying to conceive because I had remarried and husband #2 had never had kids, but it still was a shock to actually be able to conceive. Then, I was VERY nervous about abnormalities.

We went for the testing because I knew I was the kind of person who would rather have the information than spend my whole pregnancy worrying. Everything has proven to be very normal so far. My kids have been surprisingly supportive. My friends mostly shake their heads in wonder that I would want to go through all this again, but they too have been supportive.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
