I'm 43 & this morning I found out I'm pregnant

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Monday, June 18, 2007 | 0 comments

I'm 43 and this morning I took a pregnancy test and found out I am pregnant. I have 3 other children, 14, 12, and 10. Life is good.

The kids are at a somewhat independent age. I enjoy doing volunteer work at school and bowling with my friends. I really don't want to be tied down again. I am also petrified about whether the baby will be healthy.

I know there is nothing I can do, but having a baby at 44, I worry about what I will do if it needs special care over the years, and particularly when we are aging. My children will be raising their own families, and I wouldn't want to burden them with a needy sibling.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
