At 45, I am 10 weeks pregnant

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Thursday, April 17, 2008 | 0 comments

I was told at age 35, by doctors in my area, that having a tubal reversal was "risky" and I'd be better with IVF [in vitro fertilization].

At age 44, in October 2005, Dr. Berger performed my TR [tubal reversal] and now, at age 45, I am 10 weeks pregnant. Even when I told my OB [obstetrician] I was going to have the TR done, she tried to talk me into IVF. I think she's still shocked that I did it!

I too was in the best shape of my life when I started this journey. I worked out with weights and cardio 3 to 5 days a week for two years before I had the TR. Just follow your heart!!!

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
