I gave birth to my 1st baby at 44

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Wednesday, April 15, 2009 | 0 comments

A year ago I gave birth to my first baby, a beautiful boy named Jacob Daniel. I was 44 years old.

Like you I had been wondering about having another. It would be great to give Jacob a sibling. I loved being pregnant. I came to the conclusion that I would love to have another baby, and my younger husband (he's 35) and I are leaving it up to fate.

I am still breastfeeding twice a day (Jacob is slowly weaning himself) so that might be holding things up a bit but my cycles returned about 3 months ago so I am hoping for good luck soon. A baby is always hard work but well worth it.

I am so happy and thankful that I was able to conceive, carry and deliver a happy healthy baby at my age and would be ecstatic if it were to happen again. Good luck to you whatever you decide.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
