A friend of mine at 47, with her own egg

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Wednesday, October 31, 2007 | 0 comments

A friend of mine did at 47 - very rare I know - with her own egg. She did a lot of attempts over several years. It was very tough. Initially her problem was blocked fallopian tubes (she'd had a baby at 22 but had had an operation later that blocked the tubes) so her problem wasn't entirely hormonal.

That said, she had one viable embryo on most attempts. When I told my RE [Reproductive Endocrinologist] he was astonished. I suppose she has defied the stats.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
