Just got BFP at 44!

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Friday, April 06, 2012 | 0 comments

Noa - Our little daughter - Stock Photo credit: nirahanI am 44 years and 9 months, (it's only a number!!!) and have just got a BFP [big fat positive - positive pregnancy test] using my own eggs on first attempt at IVF [in vitro fertilization] (although have been pregnant three times before tubal sterilization 2 years ago).

A long way to go yet, I know, to getting a healthy newborn in my arms again but I'm going in the right direction thanks to CARE Nottingham.

P.S. I would have posted earlier but I was asleep in bed - growing babies at 44 is exhausting!!! LOL

by Sylvia Hewlett

-- A survey, undertaken specially for this book, shows that 40% of women earning $50,000 or more a year are childless at age 45.

So why is the age-old business of having babies so very elusive for this generation of high-achieving women?

Why is it that all the new power and prestige does not translate into easier choices on the family front?

It seems that women can be astronauts, CEOs, Secretaries of State, but increasingly, they cannot be mothers.

Sylvia Hewlett's powerful book looks at the hard and disturbing facts and goes on to advocate a new way of approaching the question of motherhood vs. career for a new generation of women.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
